PlayOver is a product of KHughes Consulting Inc. This page explains what PlayOver collects, why, and what we do with it.
The short version
- We never sell your data, and we never use it for advertising.
- No account needed. We don't ask for your name or email address to use PlayOver.
- Your clipboard and conversion history stay on your device.
- Most of what we collect is there to find and fix problems, like a link that wouldn't convert or a feature that stopped working, and to see which features people actually use. In the apps and on our website it's tied to a random ID, not to your name, email or any account.
- You can ask us to delete your data at [email protected].
What we collect
We collect this mainly to spot problems early and fix them, and to decide what to improve. We don't use it to build a profile of you.
Usage statistics. How PlayOver is used: which music services you convert between, whether a conversion worked, which services a song is on, the song's title, artist and recording ID (ISRC, which identifies the recording, not you), app and system version, device type, language, timezone, whether the PlayOver app is installed (Android), and the page that sent you to our website. In the Windows app this also covers whether the app was used that day, whether it's set up for streaming, the "Help songs load faster" switch, and an uninstall. These are tied to a random ID created on your device or browser.
Your IP address and general location. PostHog, our analytics provider, receives your IP address with usage statistics and uses it to estimate your country, region and city. We never use it to find your exact location. When you use our Discord bot, Telegram bot or the stream overlay, the request comes from our servers, so your IP address isn't sent.
Accounts on other platforms. If you use PlayOver inside another platform, it shares some account details with us:
- Discord: your user ID, username and display name, how old your account is, and the server or channel it's used in (its ID, name and size, and the bot's permissions there).
- Telegram: the chat's ID, title and type, and your user ID when you use the bot inline.
- Twitch: a viewer's user ID and login with each song request, and the streamer's channel ID, login, channel name and stream ID.
- Kick: only chat messages that start with "!" reach us; ordinary chat never does. We keep Kick's ID for a message we act on, or for a channel-point redemption, and delete it within two hours. We don't keep the viewer's name, Kick user ID or the message text.
When you open a PlayOver link, we note the site you came from, your browser, your device type and a rough guess at your operating system.
What stays on your device
- Clipboard: on Windows and Mac, PlayOver checks whether something you copy is a music link. Anything else is ignored at once and never stored or sent.
- Conversion history: kept only on your device. You can clear it in the app.
- Spotify and Apple Music sign-ins for listening along go straight to Spotify or Apple and never reach our servers.
Converting links
To convert a link, the app sends it to our service, which finds the same song elsewhere. Results are saved in a shared cache organised by song, not by person, so they're the same whoever asked. The cache never stores your IP address. One exception: a song cached while you stream with PlayOver connected to Twitch or Kick is labelled with your public channel name.
If you turn on "Help songs load faster for everyone" in the Windows app (it's off unless you turn it on), the app sends us each song you play, with its links and ISRC, so it's ready before anyone asks. Your public channel name goes with it only if you stream. While you're live on Twitch or Kick, the songs you play are sent this way whether or not it's on.
Party Mode
Party Mode is optional.
- Your name: the only name we get is the one you type, and a nickname is fine. If you host from an Apple TV, the host name starts as "Apple TV". PlayOver never reads your device's name or your contacts.
- Who sees it: everyone in the party, and anyone with the party code can open its recap, which shows the party name, the songs and who requested each. Recaps aren't deleted automatically; email us with the code to delete one.
- Live details (members, queue, votes) are deleted when the party ends, or about 24 hours after its last activity.
- Not in party records: your IP address, device details, email or a device ID. To stop abuse, a shortened form of your IP address is held for about two minutes, then expires.
- Guest searches go to Deezer and are kept for 7 days so the same search is faster.
Streamers
If you sign in with Kick, you let PlayOver read your chat, reply as you, and manage the channel-point reward used for song requests. We store those sign-in tokens encrypted. Pressing Disconnect deletes them immediately; otherwise they're deleted after 400 days unused. Removing PlayOver in your Kick settings stops them at once.
Who helps us run PlayOver
We share only what each needs to do its job:
- PostHog: usage statistics.
- Cloudflare: hosts our servers, and counts website visits without cookies or cross-site tracking. Like any network, it sees IP addresses as requests pass through.
- Music services and music-matching providers: song links, titles, artists and ISRCs, plus a country so the match points at the right store. Never your name or party name.
- A web-fetch provider: follows shortened links and retries some lookups for us. It receives only the address being fetched.
- Apple and Deezer: if our website can't find a song through our service, your browser asks them directly with the title and artist, so they see your IP address.
How long we keep it
- Usage statistics: until we delete them or you ask us to.
- Server logs: short technical logs, used only to find and fix problems, and deleted automatically within 7 days.
- Everything else: as stated in the section above that covers it.
Deleting your data
Email [email protected]. If you used our Discord bot, include your Discord username and we'll delete what's stored under it. Website and app statistics use a random ID that isn't linked to you, so we can't find them from a name or email. A Twitch viewer's request is stored with the streamer's statistics, so it can't be removed on its own.
Children
PlayOver isn't for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think we have, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes
When we update this policy, we change the date at the top.
