PlayOver is a product of KHughes Consulting Inc. This page explains what PlayOver collects, why, and what we do with it.

The short version

What we collect

We collect this mainly to spot problems early and fix them, and to decide what to improve. We don't use it to build a profile of you.

Usage statistics. How PlayOver is used: which music services you convert between, whether a conversion worked, which services a song is on, the song's title, artist and recording ID (ISRC, which identifies the recording, not you), app and system version, device type, language, timezone, whether the PlayOver app is installed (Android), and the page that sent you to our website. In the Windows app this also covers whether the app was used that day, whether it's set up for streaming, the "Help songs load faster" switch, and an uninstall. These are tied to a random ID created on your device or browser. A few are recorded by our servers rather than by the app or the website. Those are tied to the playlist, song or channel involved, and to no person or device at all.

Your IP address and general location. PostHog, our analytics provider, receives your IP address with usage statistics and uses it to estimate your country, region and city. We never use it to find your exact location. When you use our Discord bot, Telegram bot or the stream overlay, the request comes from our servers, so your IP address isn't sent.

Accounts on other platforms. If you use PlayOver inside another platform, it shares some account details with us:

When you open a PlayOver link, we note the site you came from, your browser, your device type and a rough guess at your operating system.

What stays on your device

Converting links

To convert a link, the app sends it to our service, which finds the same song elsewhere. Results are saved in a shared cache organised by song, not by person, so they're the same whoever asked. The cache never stores your IP address. One exception: a song cached while you stream with PlayOver connected to Twitch, Kick or TikTok is labelled with your public channel name.

If you turn on "Help songs load faster for everyone" in the Windows app (it's off unless you turn it on), the app sends us each song you play, with its links and ISRC, so it's ready before anyone asks. Your public channel name goes with it only if you stream. While you're live on Twitch, Kick or TikTok, the songs you play are sent this way whether or not it's on.

Moving a playlist

If you move a playlist to another service, PlayOver reads it from the service you are moving it from. On Spotify that uses the connection you already made: PlayOver can read your playlists and create a new playlist for the songs it moves. Spotify makes new playlists public; you can make one private in Spotify. PlayOver only ever adds songs to a playlist it made. It never removes anything or changes your other playlists.

Finding each song. For every track we receive its title, artist, length, recording ID (ISRC) and the service's own track ID, and find the match on the other service. Those results are cached by song, the same way link conversions are — song facts, not who asked for them.

Finishing on Apple Music. This finishes in a PlayOver window on your PC. You sign in to Apple there, and PlayOver keeps that sign-in encrypted on your PC so you only sign in once; the list of your Apple Music playlists is read there too and stays on your PC; the page talks to Apple directly and sends us only counts of how far it has got. Pressing Sign out of Apple Music on the transfer screen deletes it from your PC. So the page can finish, we hold the matched Apple song IDs and the playlist's name on our server for up to 6 hours.

If you paste a playlist link (Spotify, Apple Music or Deezer), we read that public playlist and store its name and song list for 365 days, under a code worked out from the songs themselves, so it does not have to be read again. It is not tied to you or your device.

Party Mode

Party Mode is optional.

Streamers

If you sign in with Kick, you let PlayOver read your chat, reply as you, and manage the channel-point reward used for song requests. We store those sign-in tokens encrypted. Pressing Disconnect deletes them immediately; otherwise they're deleted after 400 days unused. Removing PlayOver in your Kick settings stops them at once.

If you connect TikTok, you sign in to TikTok inside PlayOver so it can read your LIVE chat and reply as you. Your TikTok sign-in stays on your PC and never reaches our servers. Pressing Disconnect signs PlayOver out of TikTok and deletes it from your PC.

Songs to your Discord DMs

If you ask for a song to be sent to your Discord DMs, you link your accounts at playover.app/link. Signing in with Discord lets us read the accounts connected to your Discord profile, which is how we find your Twitch, and adds PlayOverBot to your account so it can send you the DM; Kick viewers sign in with Kick instead. We store your Discord user ID paired with the ID of the Twitch or Kick account you link, and keep that until you disconnect on the same page. We don't keep your Discord or Kick sign-in tokens after you sign in.

If you ask for a song before you've linked, we hold it for 24 hours so it can still reach you: the song, the channel it came from, and your ID on Twitch or Kick. Disconnecting deletes the pairing and anything still held. A DM we have already sent sits in your Discord account under Discord's terms — the 24 hours is how long we hold a song we have not sent yet.

Who helps us run PlayOver

We share only what each needs to do its job:

How long we keep it

Deleting your data

Email [email protected]. If you used our Discord bot, include your Discord username and we'll delete what's stored under it. Website and app statistics use a random ID that isn't linked to you, so we can't find them from a name or email. A Twitch viewer's request is stored with the streamer's statistics, so it can't be removed on its own.

Children

PlayOver isn't for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think we have, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes

When we update this policy, we change the date at the top.
